*You guys ever seen Aliens, with Siguorney Weaver?*All was quiet aboard the Colonial Marine Vessel "Polaris," shooting silently through space. Far-off stars shone steadily as pin-points of light. Still far ahead was the planet LV-426, a research colony funded by the Global Government.
On board, everyone slept soundly in their Cryogenic Hybernation Tubes. Weapon racks lined the walls in the equipment room; M-41a Pulse Rifles, Flame-throwers, pistols, and "Smart" guns.
The cryo-tubes began to deactivate, freeing their inhabitants from prolonged slumber. Marines, Officers, and Naval Personel woke slowly from their hybernation.
Lance slowly opened his eyes and coughed lightly. He sat up, moaning.
"They're not paying me enough for this job, man," he said to no one in particular.
"Not enough to have to wake up to your face, Lance," Emily replied, stretching her arms behind her head.
"What? Was that a joke?" Lance glanced towards Emily, who was in the tube next to his.
"Whatever, Lance," Jake responded, blinking in the bright lights.
"Come on, people, lets get going," Sargeant Carter, a stocky Malamute, was already striding confidently in front of the tubes.
After a few moments, Emily, Lance, Jake, and many other Marines began to file into the showers. Then, it was on to "breakfast," though no one really knew the time, or cared.
The Polaris was crewed by twelve Naval Personel, and had a compliment of twenty six Marines (let me know if this isn't accurate, Mavrik) in two squads. There were two officers on board. One from the Navy, who controlled the ship, and the other was from the Marine Corps, who was in charge of the Marines.
At breakfast, the Marines sat at two long tables, and the Naval Personel ate at another table. The food was far from good, re-constituted from dehydrated packets.
"What is this crap?" Lance wondered out loud.
"I think it's cornbread..." Jake examined his carefully. Then, shrugging, he popped the rest into his mouth and finished it eagerly.
Emily just looked at him disgustedly as crumbs of "cornbread" fell from his mouth.
*Ok, guys, breakfast scene. Good for charactor developement... After they land, they will find a group of surviving scientists trying to defend themselves from attacking aliens (like in the movie). Feel free to join in any time.
