Convoy smiled as he stripped off his cowboy hat as he walked into the house he shared with his beloved wife Abby Maddog. It wasn’t far from her family’s home in the Atlanta area of Georgia, but it was a far cry from the mansion that her family lived in because of their father’s successful litigation career. The house was modest, only two stories and three bedrooms, it was a far cry from the multi-room mansion Abby had grown up in. The most extravagant part of the entire house was his wife’s fair sized study/office with a antique oak desk and a entire wall covered with books of statutes and law cases. Both the desk and the law books were beloved presents from his wife’s father on the day she decided, in quite an unexpected turn, to become a family litigator. She still worked for her father’s firm, but had actually started a specialized section that she was head of.
It had surprised people that knew her before her marriage, but it hadn’t surprised Convoy the wolf that she had married. She had slowly changed over the two years that they had been married, her personality had changed a bit. Yes, she was still a bit snobby, and elitist. However, that attitude now a day came out more as contempt for her normal opponents, child abusers, and other such, well, scum as Convoy put it that threatened family life, at least the type of family life that Abby had grown up with. She picked and chose her cases, generally staying away from the more selfish seeming cases and taking up the ones she felt were serious threats to her clients. Convoy laughed gently as he thought of that, recently, he had called her a family crusader, and really, that’s what she had become, she had sifted her more selfish side’s energy into her crusade to protect innocent families.
With that thought he walked into her study, and was surprised to find that she wasn’t there. This was were she spent most the time at home when he wasn’t around. This immediately sent him looking throughout the house, beginning to worry about her. He even checked the barn out back, a present from her, the land and a horse to ride whenever he wanted. A few months ago he had coaxed her into getting her own horse and she had found she liked it as much as her husband, but she wasn’t there either. With that, he simply stood for a few seconds in the dinning room, which was the center of the house’s design and scratched his head in a worried fashion. He had even checked the dinning room table twice to make sure she hadn’t left him a post-it note like she normally did when she took off for her family’s offices for some emergency or another, but there was none there, and that wasn’t like her to not let him know she wouldn’t be home when he got there, and it worried him.
Just as his heart was beginning to tighten with fear, his keen ears heard the click of the front door’s lock working, and the door opening, he immediately called out the worry in his voice clearly apparent. “Abby darlin’?”
Abby winced, she had forgotten the post-it hadn’t she? She thought as she had rushed out for her hastily scheduled appointment. She gently chided herself for her mistake and how she had most likely scared her devoted husband with her careless mistake. “I’m fine Convoy,” she returned as she sat her purse down on the dining room table, her tail swinging a bit nervously as she hugged hi and gently kissed his muzzle.
“Where were ya’ll darlin’? I don’t wanna sound like some creep tryin’ to keep ya’ll locked up to myself, but, I was worried…”
Abby winced a bit but smiled at him. “Oh Convoy, your not being some tyrant, and I thank you for worrying, its all right.” She blushed a bit. “I am sorry, I set up a rather hasty doctors appointment and I rushed out so fast, I forgot the note.”
That caused Convoy to blink in thought, his prick ears folded back in confusion. “Doctors appointment darlin’?”
Abby gulped a little and her bushy collie tail swung a little faster with nervousness as she lead her husband to their living room and sat him on their couch then slowly paced, something he realized was her thoughtful action, he had seen it a lot of times when she had been cross-examining her opponent’s witnesses. “Convoy honey, you know I haven’t been feeling my best for the last few days, right?”
He nodded slowly, he had secretly been thinking of that the last time she had gone into the offices, his beautiful sable and white bride had been very pail and he had asked her to stay home. She couldn’t she had to go in, but she compromised by cutting the visit as short as she could and came back home to his pampering. “Yeah, I was getting a bit worried, you seemed so pail when I left for the compound this mornin’ to meet with the other Rovers…”
Abby nodded. “I know, well, after you left, my stomach decided it wanted to work in reverse for once…”
Abby are you all right?” it was supreme concern in his voice.
She smiled sheepishly, “yes Convoy, that’s why I scheduled the appointment after talking to Samantha, something has been nagging my mind ever since I started this illness, and finally I got up the nerve to find out the truth.”
She smiled gently, and Convoy noticed a new glint in her eye and she seemed to glow all of the sudden. “I was right about my hunch,” a broad and very, well, almost giddy smile spread across her muzzle as she scrunched down to his face level taking his hands in giddy excitement, like she was a teen school girl ready for her first date and telling her best friend about it. “Convoy, I’m pregnant!”
That hit Convoy like a brick wall, a very desirable brick wall to be sure, but a brick wall nonetheless. “Pr…pr…pregnant?”
"Yes.”
“B…by me?” he knew it was idiotic when he said it but his mind was having trouble keeping up with such a wonderful announcement.
Abby giggled, knowing that his brain was slowly coming around to the fact of the matter, Kyra had told her her brother had been much the same way. “Of coarse my sill wolf!” She was so happy, so excited.
Finally, it hit, and not only did his eyes sparkle, and he let out a howl of joy as he leapt to his feet took her up in his arms and spun her around excitedly.
She giggled and held on lovingly as she was spun. “I take it you like my news huh?”
Convoy smiled. “Darlin’ there couldn’t be any better news!!!!” And with that, he gave her a long, loving and very passionate kiss. They were going to be a family he thought, with a little pup that they created with God’s help. How wonderful that was in both cano’s minds as their energy subsided only a fraction and they sat down on the couch, Abby in his lap snuggling. It was really, the one thing both of them had wanted, they had talked about it, but this was a surprise, and a beautiful wonderful surprise. Convoy looked at his collie, his bride, his wife and smiled. Yes, this was what he always wanted, and Abby, was the one he had always wanted it with.
